Experimental Research on Welding Process of 5A06 and 6061 Aluminum Alloys

[China Aluminum Network] 5A06 aluminum alloy is an aluminum-magnesium rust-proof aluminum, and 6061 aluminum alloy is an aluminum-magnesium silicon-based wrought aluminum. Both are characterized by: medium strength, good plasticity, weldability, and corrosion resistance. Sex is widely used in automotive, marine, and railroad vehicle structural parts. Due to production process requirements for welding of 5A06 and 6061 aluminum alloy materials, in order to ensure welding quality and improve production efficiency, this experiment adopts manual TIG welding and semi-automatic MIG welding to perform welding process experiments on 5A06 and 6061 aluminum alloy materials with a thickness of 8mm. the study.

The base metal is 8mm thick 5A06 and 6061 aluminum alloy sheet, its mechanical properties are shown in Table 1. TIG welding (TIG welding) and semi-automatic welding (MIG welding) were used for welding. ER5356 was used as the welding wire. The yield strength of the deposited metal was 135 MPa and the tensile strength was 275 MPa. The manual welding TIG welding welding parameters are shown in Table 2. The ambient temperature is 24°C, the length of the tungsten pole is 5-6mm, the distance between the nozzle and the test piece is 8-12mm, and the weldment is preheated to 200-250°C before welding. Interlayer cleaning is done with stainless steel wire and the temperature between the layers is not less than 200°C. The welding parameters of semi-automatic MIG welding are shown in Table 3. With DC reverse connection, the ambient temperature is 24°C, and the nozzle is 12-22mm away from the welding test piece. The weldment will not be preheated before welding. Interlayer cleaning is done with stainless steel wire and the temperature between the layers is not less than 200°C.
