Imports and exports in December exceeded expectations of a rebound in China's trade data

In 2015, the total import and export value of China's goods trade was 24.59 trillion yuan, which was 7% lower than that in 2014. Among them, exports were 14.14 trillion yuan, a decrease of 1.8%; imports were 10.45 trillion yuan, a decrease of 13.2%; trade surplus was 3.69 trillion yuan, an increase of 56.7%.

On January 13, the data released by the General Administration of Customs showed that the total value of imports and exports of China's goods trade in 2015 was 24.59 trillion yuan, which was 7% lower than that in 2014. Among them, exports were 14.14 trillion yuan, a decrease of 1.8%; imports were 10.45 trillion yuan, a decrease of 13.2%; trade surplus was 3.69 trillion yuan, an increase of 56.7%.

Huang Songping, spokesperson of the General Administration of Customs, said that in the complex and grim situation, foreign trade development still shows some positive changes and highlights, mainly in the following aspects:

First, trade methods are more reasonable. Under the State Council’s "stabilizing growth and structural adjustment" measures, China's general trade import and export value was 13.29 trillion yuan in 2015, a decrease of 6.5%, accounting for 54% of the total value of imports and exports. 0.3%; of which exports grew by 2.2%.

Second, the diversification of trading partners has made positive progress. In 2015, the EU, the United States, and ASEAN were my top three trading partners, with bilateral trade values ​​of 3.51 trillion, 3.47 trillion, and 2.93 trillion yuan respectively. During the same period, China’s trade performance in emerging markets such as ASEAN and India performed relatively well. Among them, the bilateral trade value of ASEAN declined slightly by 0.6%, and India’s growth was 2.5%, both of which performed better than the overall situation of imports and exports.

Third, private enterprises show their vitality in foreign trade. In 2015, the import and export of private enterprises in China reached 9.1 trillion yuan, a slight drop of 0.2%, accounting for 37% of the total value of imports and exports, an increase of 2.5 percentage points; of which exports increased by 3.1%.

Fourth, the structure of export commodities has been further optimized. In 2015, China exported 8.15 trillion yuan of mechanical and electrical products, an increase of 1.2%, accounting for 57.7% of the total value of exports, an increase of 1.7 percentage points over the previous year. In the same period, the total value of exports of seven categories of labor-intensive products such as textiles, clothing, bags, shoes, toys, furniture, and plastic products was 2.93 trillion yuan, a decrease of 1.7%, accounting for 20.7% of the total value of exports; among them, toys and furniture Exports of luggage, bags, and plastic products kept growing.
