13-year-old develops efficient tree solar panels

According to the American "Popular Science" website on August 19, a 13-year-old teenager in the United States has taken the initiative to invent a new type of solar panel based on trees, which is 50% more energy efficient than conventional panels.

Adan Dwiler, a 13-year-old boy who lives in New York City, noticed the regular distribution of tree branches in a deep winter excursion last year, and immediately concluded that the branches of the trees were arranged according to the Fibonacci sequence in mathematics.

Aidan believes that this must be related to the photosynthesis of the trees and begins experimenting boldly. First, he used a cylindrical double-inclined protractor designed and manufactured by himself to measure the spiral distribution of the branches and leaves of trees. Later, he copied this proportion into computer programs and used PVC pipes to create a solar battery pack that resembles an oak tree. Aidan experiments with the "oak-type" solar battery and another ordinary flat-battery battery he has made under the same conditions, and measures the amount of power generated by both. As a result, it was proved that the solar battery power generation with the shape similar to the oak is much higher than that of an ordinary solar battery. In particular, on the day of the winter solstice with the lowest solar altitude, the new battery pack generates 50% more power than traditional battery packs. Aidan believes that this is because the former's panel arrangement greatly increases the area where the battery pack receives solar energy. He is currently studying other types of trees and hopes to find ways to further increase the efficiency of solar cell power generation.
