The Army said that research on this type of floating missile requires an innovative research, and it needs a breakthrough in the field of non-lethal weapon technology research to realize the miniaturization and lightweighting of bullets. The Army advises designers to consider mechanical bullets—such as rubber bullets—acoustic, chemical, electrical bullets, or stun bullets.
The development of bouncing bullets is not an unattainable dream. Now, the U.S. Army has developed a "blade knife" drone that can be suspended in the air quietly. After discovering the target, it will carry out a suicide strike and destroy the target. This drone was launched from the launch tube and opened the wing when it was flying into the air. The "scalpel knife" is a new means of combating suspicious armed elements. In order to develop the drone, the US military paid $4.9 million to the manufacturer AeroVironment.
In June 2011, the Army's Melee Weapons Division signed a contract with AeroVironment to develop the "Scalpel" drone. AeroVironment stated that the "scalpel knife" is equipped with a miniature motor that can transmit real-time images from the air to help soldiers determine their identity. The operator then sends an order to the "scalpel" commanding it to lock the target and strike. This drone detonated a small bomb when it hit the target.
