Scientists from South Korea University used a coprecipitation method to invent a unique perovskite layer for solar cells.

This perovskite solar cell uses a lead halide as a light absorber, a nanoporous nickel oxide as a hole transport material (HTL), a methylamine lead iodide and a methyl bromide lead compound as a perovskite layer, and an organic layer. The inorganic zinc oxide compound electron transport layer (ETL) prevents the perovskite layer from being exposed to the air, thereby preventing cell degradation.
According to the article published in the journal "Contemporary Materials", the conversion efficiency of this kind of battery in the preliminary test was 19.1%, and after five months of use, the conversion efficiency only deteriorated by 1/5.
Dr. Sawanta Mali, co-author of the article, explained: “We successfully optimized the metal oxides in the protective layers of HTL and ETL using simple methods, thereby enhancing the air stability of perovskite solar cells. Our main goal is to The inexpensive, air-stable, n-type and p-type inorganic metal oxides replace expensive, low stability, hole-transport materials that require additional additives, thereby simplifying the tedious manufacturing process."
Although this technology is currently only used in the laboratory, the article's correspondent Chang Kook Hong is very sure that this method can be applied on a large scale. He explained: "This device structure can be prepared for large-scale devices."
