Test method description:
Cut the material to the specified sample size. The sample is then placed symmetrically between the two clamps. Pull the clip in the opposite direction and record the maximum breaking strength of the fabric.

Test method description:
The test method allows one of two separate programs to be used. The two programs are called "Mullen burst strength" and "steel ball burst strength." The Mullen Burst Strength Test clamps a circular material sample onto the diaphragm and expands it with oil pressure. Press until the fabric is broken. The pressure at which the fabric breaks (in pounds per square inch) is the bursting strength.
The ball burst strength test uses a steel ball attached to a tension tester, which forces the ball through a sample of fabric clamped in a fixed position. The result is expressed as the pounds of force.

The test is similar to applying force to move the elbow through the sleeve. The pressure required to break the fabric was tested. Measured as force per unit area (lb/in2 or N/m2). The pressure is applied to the material by one of these methods, either by pushing the "steel ball" into the fabric sample or by clamping the sample on the instrument and expanding it with oil pressure.
