On May 13, the Japan Machine Tool Industry Association (JMTBA) released preliminary statistics on the country's machine tool industry in April. Data show that in April 2010, Japanese machine tool orders increased by 6.4%, up 220.5% year-on-year to 80.707 billion yen. Domestic orders increased by 87.3% year-on-year and 18.4% quarter-on-quarter to 22.833 billion yen; foreign orders increased by 345.4% year-on-year and 2.3% quarter-on-quarter to 57.874 billion yen.
