Element Six participates in the European Commission's Quantum Information Research Project

Ascot, England, March 26 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Element Six Ltd (E6) will participate in a research project funded by the European Commission to develop new technologies for quantum computing. Global researchers have a strong interest in developing practical ways to make quantum computers, because quantum computers have the potential to achieve significant improvements in computer performance and information processing capabilities.

The project involved in E6 is called "Engineered Quantum Information in Nanostructured Diamond" (EQUIND) and its purpose is to determine whether the optical properties of the diamond found can be used as a basic element of quantum computers and single-photon sources. The three-year project began in 2007 as part of the “FET Open Funding Programme” project. The “FET Open Funding Programme” project aims to study potential future and emerging technologies that may have an impact on society or industry.

EQUIND brings together eight groups of leading researchers from academia and industry, and will be assisted by the Ecole Normale Superieure de Cachan in the suburbs of Paris. Other collaborators include the University of Bristol and the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom, the Stuttgart University and the Kiel University in Germany, and the Academy of Science in Belarus) and the University of Melbourne in Australia. This alliance combines the expertise of two different areas - diamond material processing and quantum information processing. Steve Coe, E6 Operations Manager, said: "We believe this is the first time such a high-level research group has formed in Europe that will strengthen Europe's leading position in achieving this technology."

The EQUIND Alliance will be able to use the finest synthetic diamond materials such as ultra high purity single crystal diamond. This diamond is made from the chemical deposition gas phase process developed by E6 for a range of advanced engineering applications. This material provides a strong foundation for EQUIND to develop diamond structures with unique properties for quantum computing.

Element Six is the world leader in the production of synthetic diamonds in all forms of industrial use. Element Six pioneered the development of CVD diamond technology in the 1980s, and has a world-renowned research center in Ascot. CVD diamonds create a number of new applications for synthetic diamonds in addition to traditional grinding. The fields of CVD diamond include laser exit window, cutting tools, surgical blades, window for high-power gyrotron, electronic device thermal extension, and active electronic devices. Device).
